Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario (EAPO), founded in 1989, is the provincial organization recognized for its leadership in EA Prevention providing education, multi-sectoral training, resource development and information about the increasingly complex issues of elder abuse.
Collaborating with over 45 volunteer, local area EA Networks EAPO prioritizes coordination of community and system partners to effectively support and help safeguard older Ontarians from abuse, harm and victimization as well as breaking down barriers (whether cultural, accessibility challenges or fundamental gaps in knowledge) to improve the quality of life and well-being of seniors and their families.
EAPO envisions an Ontario where ALL seniors are free from ageism and abuse, where human rights are advanced, protected and respected.
Governed by a volunteer Board, EAPO is funded by the Ontario Government, through the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility (MSAA) to support the implementation of the Ontario Strategy to Combat Elder Abuse (introduced in 2002 and the 1st of its kind in Canada). The organization is the recipient of additional funding streams through research partnerships, training initiatives, special project grants and the generosity of donors wishing to support the cause – to Stop Abuse & Restore Respect.
